Been getting a 500 server error when trying to add a new story. I've contacted my host for support. I've backed up the archive just in case.

I did some massive writing this past month. Sixteen new stories and exactly 27,000 words--and I only made it halfway through the month. Anyway, I'm in the process of getting all those uploaded... and wishing eFiction had an automatic tag-adding system like AO3 because creating each new individual tag in the Admin Panel is such a pain in my ass. C'est la archiving 😩
Oh yeah. It's all coming together.

Got everything but the Band of Brothers fandom edited to reflect the new changes for the "genre" classification. Also did some general editing, updating broken image links from my old domain to the new domain. Probably don't have everything fixed just yet, but progress is progress.
A small change...
22 May 2021 1:41 PM
...that's going to mean even more editing but will be worth it. Instead of having the orientation (M/M, gen, etc) as tags, I created a new classification called "Genre" to define the relationship content for my stories. It'll make browsing a bit easier. Not that this place is getting much traffic these days, but hey. It never hurts to have a well-organized backup in case the world's favorite archive (God forbid) runs into any problems.
New Story Info Additions
07 May 2021 11:55 AM
Because I'm a masochist and
I like organization, I added a classification for relationships. I've got a small chunk of stories edited to reflect this, but I still have a lot to go. And a whole lot more tags to add, but that will come later. Slowly getting there.
The Great Migration
03 May 2021 1:38 PM
Say hello to TheBentArchive.net!
Well, after two failures I think I finally got all my stories successfully imported and the Archive in a manageable state. Still need to 1) create a category for Star Wars since I'm creating a lot of content for that fandom lately, 2) adjust the characters list to make it more intuitive, 3) adjust the tags list + create additional tags (which will require a massive tag-wrangling of all my stories), 4) tinker with the skin and possibly create a new skin, and 5) put up the Great Wall of Bender to prevent the spam bots from infiltrating.
On top of everything else I'm currently doing. C'est la archiving.
Notes to self
28 Jun 2020 8:25 PM
This past week I've
- -Edited/updated (copied over) all recent thorki fics from AO3
- -Gone in to the backend of my database server and edited the publish dates on a lot of my old fics that still had the 2010 dates from my last big migration
- -Run all archive maintenance processes in the Admin section
- -Backed up mySQL databases and FTP files
- -Upgraded eFiction for what I hope is not the last time
Everything looks good, Bender. You don't need to mess with the PHP files or TPL files unless you find something amiss.
Now I just need to get my gallery updated and work on the front page of my domain. And wait for Fanexus to save fandom as we know it from social media.
The End is Nigh?
21 Jun 2020 7:53 PM
It feels like it's been ten years even though it's only been six months. O how my aspirations for 2020 have been rerouted.
Aside from pandemics and politics, the eFiction software and website, which this archive runs on, is up for adoption. The future is uncertain, but as long as I can keep this software protected, I will continue to run the Bent Archive.
As such, I'm making preparations to preserve this archive as accurately as possible. I've been running it for nearly 17 years and it's gone through many moves and databases, so I'm trying to correct the dates on all my fics from the last import I did in 2010. It's a slow process but I'm making headway. Once I complete that, I should have a pretty thorough record of just about everything I've ever written in the last 20 years. Which really, in my opinion, is a feat of archive documentation. I'm extremely glad that I took up with eFiction as early as I did, and I truly hope some good soul will step in and adopt this project instead of letting it die. Without this software, so much of my work could have been lost over the years. eFiction was here before AO3, before Strikethrough, and was the only option fan authors had to post their works without fear of them disappearing without warning. I am honored to have been a part of the eFiction community.

I'm slowly but surely getting each and every story here tagged and classified correctly. It's going to be a long process, especially when it comes to adjusting the actual publication dates on the backend of my database, but once I do that the Archive will be easy to export and maintain for years to come. Standardization and organization is my goal for 2020!
Another goal for this year is to slap my domain into shape and create a gallery for all my artwork throughout the years, instead of posting it here. My domain would then be split into two distinct parts: writing and artwork. If that's the case, I'm probably going to rename the Bent Archive to the Bent Library. But that's in the yet uncertain future.
Good things are coming--I hope you'll stay tuned and enjoy them with me!
Tags, Warnings, and Pairings
07 Sep 2019 9:23 PM
I'm working on adding more tags and editing the warning system to make it more akin to AO3's (i.e., something almost everyone is familiar with). It's a great tagging system and hard to beat; however, this means I'm going to be spending a lot of time editing all my old stories to include these new classifications, but by working backward and a little at a time, I'll eventually get it done.
My To Do list for my this place gets longer every day. 😅
Another thing is the pairings. The relationship tags are the typical M/F, M/M, F/F and Gen designations that readers are used to seeing (or they will be when I start editing everything), but sometimes gender identity, sex, and relationships aren't that simple. Therefore, I've decided to add a tag for intersex/ambisexual/sexless, or other such characters (like shapeshifters or aliens) using "X". If, for instance, you see M/X, that means it's a male character paired with one of the aforementioned sexes. I hope that these classifications will help readers find more of the content they're looking for.

I recently upgraded hosting plans for my website, which meant new IP address and new MySQL and PHP and tearing down everything and then putting it back up again. 😭 I hit a few snags in the process, but everything is finally back to normal.
Spring 2019 Cleaning
16 Feb 2019 1:55 PM
I went ahead and nixed the Original Works category (there wasn't much in there anyway), so now the BHN Archive is pretty much exclusively fanfiction and fandom-related material. Yay? 😅
Also, I realized that I still have quite a few more stories to import--mostly old stuff that I was desperate to bury because it was so bad--before the Archive is completely up-to-date. Hopefully the addition of all these old fics will escape the notice of the general public.
It bears mentioning: yes, all these stories are written by one person: me. Young me and present me. So if you stumble across something stupid, asinine, and grotesquely awful, don't be alarmed. Be encouraged; there really is hope for everyone, and no one is born a perfect writer.
Especially not me. Holy crap, definitely not me.
Bye Bye Tumblr
15 Dec 2018 7:08 PM
In a few days Tumblr will be bidding a fond farewell to its NSFW content, and subsequently over half of its userbase.
This has prompted me to update the Archive and take care of a few template elements that I've been too lazy to mess with recently. It's been many years since I've had to rely on other sites to host my content, and places like AO3 and Dreamwidth that allow for full freedom of creative expression are few and far between.
I don't know where I was going with this. Updates are coming and I'm going to give bent-halo.net a facelift in 2019. That is all!
13 Mar 2018 12:38 PM
In addition to continuing the importation process of all my old fics, I'm also working on tidying up some of the site templates and categories, making things a bit easier to read and navigate and everything. I'm also going to be working on some new skins here soon (like this new default I made, based on AO3's appearance), including an option that'll be easier on the eyes. Keep an eye out for it. (Ha, y'see
what I did there? ...jeez I have no life.)
More Marvel Managing
07 Dec 2017 5:04 PM
I added subcategories to the main Marvel category, as well as did a little bit of cleanup and organizing with the Genres, Warnings, and Characters. I've got a couple new stories from AO3 to post here, so stay tuned for those. Also, I'm still working on bringing back some of my old super-explicit works. They'll be here whenever as soon as I go into the back-end of my server and get those values restored to my database.
21 Mar 2017 9:00 AM
You might have noticed the "Ghost Rider" category has disappeared. Fear not. I consolidated all Marvel-related fanfiction into a new category called "Marvel", where you'll be able to find my Ghost Rider fics as well as stories from the X-Men universe and MCU's Captain America. This ought to make browsing a little easier. Maybe. I don't know. I just wanted to have a Marvel category, I guess. I was definitely overdue for one.
New Years Resolutions
17 Feb 2017 9:09 AM
So it's 2017 now and I've decided to restore some of the old x-rated fanfics I either put in storage or removed last time I updated. (I'm still a good person, don't judge me on the filth I write.) I'll be going into my database tables and re-installing these stories over the course of however long it takes me. Might be anything from hours to weeks, depending on any issues I might encounter. Nevertheless, I hope the addition of these horrific stories will go largely unnoticed and not tarnish any good impressions I've made upon you, Dear Reader.
16 Jun 2016 7:08 AM
I've been enjoying a return to the Gundam Wing fandom recently and been doing a lot of writing, enough to justify resurrecting the category here at the archive. While I was messing around on the backend, I figured I needed to toss my Metalocalypse works into the Other Fandoms category since I only had 4 works in it. I try to keep things neat around here if I can. So if you're looking for Dethklok fics, don't panic, just head to Other Fandoms and you'll find them.
Hard at Play
02 Mar 2016 6:12 AM
Got a couple new skins designed (more will be on the way soon), plus an update on a moldy (but still golden) oldie from my Gundam Wing fandom days. It is currently the oldest fic of mine (coming up on 16 years--old enough to drive on its own) that is still a work in progress. Maybe this time around I'll finally finish it instead of keeping readers hanging on for another 8 years.
New skins on the way
29 Jan 2016 2:52 PM
Greetings, readers! I'm working on developing a few different skins in an effort to help improve legibility and decrease eye strain (also, writing CSS relaxes me and I like to change things up every now and then). Right now I've got just this galaxy theme, but more will be forthcoming. I'll be putting up the skin-change option box pretty soon, too. In the meantime, just sit back and enjoy the stars.
